My middle school teacher played blues on a Fender Strat... that was the moment of change for me
MARC-ANDRE SEGUIN / date
Much like you, I've always enjoyed the sound of an electric guitar and started playing early on, at 12 years of age.
But at that time I was not taking music too seriously. I was into hockey, video games and joking around with friends!
And for the better part of my teenage years... I was into rock and roll (and rebellion). Yup! You're not alone. ;-)
I played lots of blues stuff, pop, prog and metal. Seriously. But when I went to college, I realized that if I wanted to turn pro (and get real musical training) I had two options: I was either going to study classical or jazz music.
So the rebellion faded away, and it snowballed into serious academic studies in music for me.
I graduate with a B.A. degree in classical music (w/o classical guitar lessons, I was actually taking jazz lessons myself outside of school!) and then moved to Montreal where to study jazz and completed another degree.
It didn't take long before I really fell in love with jazz. It wasn't just an academic thing after all! And the desire to teach jazz and improvisation to others grew out of this experience.
In 2009, I decided to start JazzGuitarLessons.net and share my knowledge with the world..
There's something inside me that really wants to share what I discover with others.
And jazz guitar is no exception.
I share blogs and videos with sheet music so I can "pass it on" to aspiring jazz musicians.
It's not rocket science, but if I can help people get closer to their own musical voice and have more fun, enjoying themselves while playing leisurely, then I will have achieved my greatest goal.
With that, I invite you to "choose your journey" from above or simply get to know me by reading the blog.
Stop wishing, start playing. I've laid out all the resources for you. :-)
