Three Basic Chord-Scales
for
Jazz Guitar

Please refer to this annotated PDF

Ever wondered how to play through a II-V-I progression? Are you lacking the fretboard knowledge to do so? Maybe all you need is a few guidelines to make you play the "good notes" ... ?!

In this video, I'll demonstrate the three most common chords-scales / sounds for improvisation :

  • Three useful chord voicings
  • The basic arpeggio
  • The "right" scales to use

... for each chord included in a good old II-V-I.

Namely the chords : Dm7, G7 and Cmaj7
(key of C)

Here's another article that discusses only jazz scales (including many practice suggestions...)

With this kind of material in hand (and ears!) you can basically play and improvise over most jazz standards in the repertoire.
