Find a mentor

I have been taking lessons for a year and have grown more in this year than the last 20 years that I've been playing. Once or twice a month is plenty because you need time to absorb the info and apply it. Secondarily, a junior college course can be a good environment to cultivate your skills if you don't feel like you have the chops to sit in on a jam but want to play with others and polish your improvisational ability.
