Barry Galbraith 's legacy is a tremendous body of jazz guitar works. Here is a piece of knowledge that can't be found in publications : original chord melodies that he gave to his students.
This section of the website host many original (and unrealeased) chord melody arrangements by the late Barry Galbraith.
The original *handwritten* charts can be found here. Many thanks to Andy Polon for posting them on the web in the first place.
On JazzGuitarLessons.net you will find cleaner PDF versions of the same arrangements (yes note for note) that have been inputed into a music software. Enjoy!
Each link below will open a new window in your browser, showing you the PDF of the Galbraith arrangement for jazz standard you selected. Have fun! Let me know if you have questions / comments or if you'd like to mention typos you found from the originals.
If you work through the above chord melodies, you'll surely come across many obstacles. The first difficulty is fingerings : you're on your own there. Find where it's optimal to play one chord (or a series of chords) and play it the same way every time. You can even take notes on the chart itself.
The second problem is that of chord names. Simply as a gymnastic, you should be able to spell out the changes from what's written. You can (perhaps) also write this down in pencil on your Barry Galbraith charts. You'll be amazed : discovering new chord shapes has never been so easy! (-:
Lastly, there might be some typos in the scores. I tried to copy the chords note-by-note from photocopies... some illegible copies even. If you find anything that just *does not fit*, please contact me, it might be a mistake or an un-readable part of the original score.
Have fun! (-:
